Muhammad Indimi: The Silent Philanthropist Championing the Rebuilding of North-East Nigeria

Dr. Muhammad Indimi, OFR, founder of Oriental Energy Resources Limited, one of the first indigenous oil and gas companies in Nigeria, needs little or no introduction. The highly successful sole founder of Oriental Energy Resources Limited is one of Nigeria’s wealthiest men. Not an overnight billionaire. Dr. Indimi made his money the old-fashioned way. He started from the bottom, built his business from scratch, and through consistency, resilience, and hard work, he has prevailed. Like a northern sun, Dr. Indimi has remained constant and blossomed like a tree planted by the river. One key thing about Dr. Indimi’s business is human capital development. His company, Oriental Energy Resources Limited, is known for its corporate social responsibility (CSR  activities, especially in Oriental host communities. For instance, Oriental launched a N700 million modern residential estate of 100 units in Enwang, the headquarters of the Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He has also carried out several interventions in other locations within the Oriental business environment.

Dr. Indimi has had incredible success thanks to his oil company. But there is another project that’s so dear to Dr. Indimi’s heart. And that’s philanthropy. Like an average northerner, Dr. Muhammed is not the bragging type. Modesty is his middle name. But when it comes to promoting humanitarian causes, Dr. Indimi is arguably one of the biggest sponsors of humanitarian ventures in North-East Nigeria and beyond. And this is not overhyped one bit. You can fact-check it. For Dr. Indimi, philanthropy comes naturally. Spreading kindness is his calling. It comes naturally to him. And that’s why he’s never tired of sharing his wealth with the less privileged. Charity, they say, begins at home, and, understandably, Dr. Indimi is focused on lifting his people out of poverty. Not many people knew that the oil magnate donated a staggering sum of $5 million for the redemption of Boko Haram victims. Dr. Indimi’s substantial donation was the inspiration behind the formation of the Victims Support Fund (VSF).

Apart from his donation to the VSF, Dr. Indimi followed up his rebuilding north-east Nigeria project with a 100-unit N600 million Muhammad Indimi Village for internally displaced persons in Borno State. The Muhammad Indimi Village built in Bama, the most-hit community by the insurgency, comes fully equipped with modern schools, food, clothing, and clinics for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State. And that’s not all; another village was also built by the Muhammad Indimi Foundation in Ngala, also in Borno State. Through his non-profit organisation, the Muhammad Indimi Foundation (MIF), a private foundation working to build, through the alleviation of poverty and illiteracy, a Nigeria where everyone has equal opportunities, Following its mission policy, the foundation has carried out critical interventions, including medical aid, scholarships, food distributions, and, of course, the resettlement initiative. The Foundation’s goal is to end poverty in northern Nigeria.

No doubt, Dr. Indimi has done well for himself in the global business community, but his greatest impact has been his philanthropy, especially in the rebuilding project of his beloved home state of Borno. A lover of education, Dr. Indimi has hundreds of people on scholarships pursuing academic excellence across tertiary institutions across the world. He has done well in the promotion of Islam, building mosques, and supporting Islamic causes.
