Guess who turned another year older a few weeks ago? It’s no one but one of Nigeria’s high-flying entrepreneurs, Prince Akinfemiwa Akinruntan, the Group Managing Director, GMD of OBAT Oil, one of the leading players in the Nigerian oil industry. A privileged child, Prince Akinruntan, stepped into his prominent father, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, as GMD of OBAT Oil when he ascended the throne of his forefathers as the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom. In fairness to the younger Akinruntan, he has done well since assuming the leadership of the family business. For those who know Prince Akinruntan, this is really not a surprise because he was properly groomed by his father prior to his takeover of the family business. Despite being from a privileged background, Prince Akinruntan was never pampered or accorded any extra privileges by his disciplinarian father. Right from his teenage years, he was introduced to the family business.
An alumnus of Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), where he bagged a degree in law, Prince Akinruntan has paid his due in full before his elevation as GMD of OBAT Oil. He once served as a pump attendant in one of his father’s filling stations. Later on, he became a supervisor, then a station manager, zonal manager, and general manager, and worked at the company’s depot in Lagos. Prince Akinruntan’s background has helped him to sustain and expand the family business. To his credit, he has been able to inject new ideas into the family empire. OBAT Oil has continued to grow in leaps and bounds. Under Prince Akinruntan’s guidance, the company has stepped its game from downstream to upstream. Prince Akinruntan has successfully turned the OBAT brand into a multinational company. Not only that, the OBAT gas project has sustained its upward curve. With over 150 filling stations littered across the country, OBAT Oil is definitely on top of its game in the oil industry.
Described as a down-to-earth personality, Prince Akinruntan has handled his tough assignment of leading OBAT Oil like a veteran. Not only has he done well as GMD of OBAT Oil, the brilliant young man has also continued his father’s legacy of philanthropy. Not the type to brag about his humanitarian gestures, Prince Akinruntan has done a lot in the area of service to humanity. A jolly good fellow, Prince Akinruntan’s bright personality has won him a wide network of admirers from all walks of life. Expectedly, Prince Akinruntan was surrounded by love and loved ones on the occasion of his birthday.
