In a remarkable show of community spirit and healthcare provision, a medical outreach organized by JCI Continental Lagos in partnership with the Afolabi Olabimtan Foundation and JCIN Federal Polytechnic Ilaro successfully provided free healthcare services to over 300 residents of Ilaro.
The outreach, which took place on August 17, 2024, was designed to address the critical lack of accessible healthcare in rural areas. The initiative was part of the broader “Medreach: Bridging Health Gaps, Healing Hearts, and Touching Lives” project. This project focuses on bringing essential medical services and healthcare education to underserved communities.
During the event, residents were offered free medical tests, including screenings for HIV, malaria, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure. Body Mass Index (BMI) checks were also conducted to assess the general health and nutritional status of participants. In addition to the diagnostic services, attendees received personalized medical consultations from qualified healthcare professionals who provided advice and treatment for various ailments.
The outreach was not only about diagnostics; it was also about treatment and education. Free medication was distributed to those in need, and participants were educated on managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. The event also included awareness sessions aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues, which are often overlooked in rural communities.
“The success of this event is a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement,” said JCIN Amb. Anuoluwapo Ajala, the 2024 President of JCI Continental Lagos. “We are thrilled to have partnered with the Afolabi Olabimtan Foundation and JCIN Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to make a tangible impact on the health and well-being of the people of Ilaro.” The outreach team, comprised of psychologists, medical doctors, pharmacists, and dedicated volunteers, worked tirelessly to ensure that every participant received the care and attention they deserved. The Commissioner for Budget & Planning, Ogun State Government, Olaolu Olabimtan, who was the representative of Afolabi Olabimtan Foundation, while thanking the good people of Ilaro, also communicated his commitment to ensure that healcare facilities are readily available to the people of the community.
