African Fashion Week Nigeria Gathers Momentum

Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is gearing up for a comeback that promises to shake up the entire festive season. With its newly unveiled theme, “The Naija December Experience,” AFWN 2025 is set to reclaim Lagos as the beating heart of African style, creativity and cultural celebration on December 20 and 21, 2025.

This year’s edition goes well beyond fabric, lights and catwalks. The plan is ambitious: turn the city into a vibrant fashion playground where runway artistry meets nightlife, commerce blends seamlessly with culture, and every guest gets a fully immersive taste of Nigerian December energy. Expect curated runway shows, designer pop-ups, masterclasses, live DJ sets, music performances, sustainability showcases, exclusive after-parties and the full Lagos hospitality treatment. AFWN is not just coming back; it is returning bigger, louder and more purposeful.

At the center of this creative explosion is Queen Aderonke “Ronke” Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, the visionary founder who has spent more than a decade elevating African fashion on global stages. A cultural powerhouse in her own right, Queen Ronke is the brain behind Africa Fashion Week London and the Adire Oodua Textile & Training Hub, where she champions indigenous fabric revival and skills development. Her work reflects a consistent philosophy: African fashion must not only be seen, it must be respected, commercialized and celebrated.

“Fashion is a language of identity, and Africa’s long-neglected voices deserve to be heard on the global stage,” she said while unveiling the theme. Her words echo a woman who has dedicated her life to creating opportunities for designers who may otherwise slip through the cracks. Under her leadership, AFWN has become both a runway and a bridge, connecting talent to markets, exposure and sustainable earnings.

Over the years, AFWN has hosted more than 3,000 designers and attracted over 90,000 visitors, including buyers, media professionals, creatives and international guests. Its impact stretches far beyond Nigeria. For many designers, AFWN is where dreams first took shape and where collections found their first audience. The 2025 edition now aims to deepen that legacy by offering a festival-style experience designed to drive visibility, sales and collaboration.

According to Elizabeth Igwe, AFWN 2025 Communications and PR Director, The Naija December Experience sends a clear message that fashion is more than glamour. It is celebration, creativity, and economic power. “This edition reunites designers, buyers and enthusiasts in a format that opens new opportunities for everyone involved,” she noted.

Attendance is free, but guests must register ahead to ensure smooth access and security.
AFWN 2025 is poised to be more than an event. It will be a moment that celebrates the spirit of Lagos, the brilliance of African designers and the unstoppable force of a woman who believes fashion can shape economies and identities all at once.
