Meet Olufunmilayo Olaniyi, 3rd Chairman of ICAN-LEDS

In what has been hailed as a new era of growth for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Lekki and District Society (ICAN-LEDS), Olufunmilayo Olaniyi has been inaugurated as the new chairman of the professional organization. With her inauguration, Olaniyi etched her name in history as the 3rd Chairman of ICAN-LEDS. Olaniyi, who served as the vice chairman of ICAN-LEDS, assumed leadership of the organisation after the completion of the one-year tenure of her predecessor, Gbenga Oyewole. Described as a visionary leader and goal-getter, a good networker, a socialite, a giver, and a lover of God” by the Chairman of the Investment Organising Committee and Vice Chairman of the District, Patrick Akamiokhor. Olaniyi has paid her dues in full and deservedly earned her flowers. Her elevation is seen as a reward for hard work and commitment to excellence. Olaniyi is synonymous with excellence. With an enviable career spanning over 16 years of valuable experience in tax compliance, advisory services, business development, and strategic partnerships, she has proven her mettle across various sectors, including both the public and private sectors.

 

 

 

For those who have followed her career trajectory, this brilliant tax expert possesses more than good genes and brilliance. She is said to be a major asset for the accounting profession, given her impressive track record. At Flutterwave, a leading fintech company revolutionising payment solutions in Africa, she heads the Business Development department, Public Sector, primarily in her current role as the Senior Vice President, Business Development. Prior to her current role at Flutterwave, Olaniyi has navigated key sectors and held senior positions in top corporate organizations. The companies where she covered herself in glory and left her footprints include Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), KPMG, and Andersen before joining Flutterwave as Senior Vice President, Business Development. At KPMG and Andersen, Olaniyi covered herself in glory as a tax adviser to multinational corporations and various reputable entities across diverse sectors, consistently delivering top-tier services. Not only that, she also took her expertise outside the shores of Nigeria, where she oversaw tax and accounting activities across multiple African countries, including Angola, Sierra Leone, and Ghana, showcasing her expertise in areas such as withholding tax, value-added tax, personal income tax, stamp duty, urban property tax, and corporate income tax.

 

 

 

At her colourful investiture ceremony, which also doubles as the 2nd anniversary of ICAN-LEDS, Olaniyi, in her acceptance speech, unveiled some of her objectives for the district in the coming days. Top items on her agenda include the transformation of the district to category A, inaugurating the foundation for the building of permanent office space, digitalizing the district’s database and operations, and acquiring an 18-seater bus for the district’s operations, among other exciting plans to move the district to the next level. Considering her impressive track record, Olaniyi’s capacity to lead the district to greater heights is never in doubt. Outside of the accounting environment, Olaniyi is also breaking new ground. She’s a humanitarian of international repute. Philanthropy is her middle name. She is always at the forefront of activities aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of communities and human capital development. A philanthropist in her own right, Olaniyi is an active member of IA-Foundation, an international non-governmental organization (NGO, which specialises in taking children off the street and putting them back into classes. In a move to reach out to more people, Olaniyi recently inaugurated her own NGO to support the less privileged in the areas of education, health, and economic empowerment. An alumnus of Nexford University, Washington, DC, she also holds a degree in mass communication from the University of Lagos as well as an M.Sc. from the same institution. No doubt, Olaniyi has done well for herself and her brand.
